Increase of Faith

Luke 17:5-6

Introduction: This text makes it clear that God grants us faith and rewards the faith no matter how small.

Summary Principle: A little faith is efficacious.

For the Children: Trusting in God is trusting in One who is Mighty to save and work.

1) Plea for Faith (v. 5)

Every good gift comes from God (James 1:17).

  • Comfort: God is eager to give gifts to His children (Matthew 7:11).
  • Charge: Ask the Lord for faith and trust Him to give what He commands (cf. Psalm 84:11; Ephesians 3:20).

2) Power of Faith (v. 6)

It is the power of the One in Whom we have faith that matters.

  • Comfort: God is the Object of our faith.
  • Charge: Trust God to work through you.

Christocentric Conclusion: Jesus emphasizes that our salvation and our entire Christian walk is not dependent upon our power and ability, but upon His almighty power to save and work in and through us for His glory.
