Morning Sermon Notes

The Rich Man and Lazarus

Isaiah 16:19-31

Introduction: Jesus tells a parable to illustrate that faith in God is not based on what we have seen.

Summary Principle: There is no excuse for doubting God (cf. Romans 1:20f).
For the Children: Belief in God is reasonable.

1) Believer vs. Unbeliever (vv. 19-26)

The life and death of believers contrasts the unbeliever.

  • Comfort: God comforts the afflicted (Psalm 9).
  • Charge:Christ must be our confidence in life and death.

2) Necessity of Faith (vv. 27-31)

Without faith, no amount of evidence will save.

  • Comfort:God does not expect “perfect” faith (Matthew 17:20).
  • Charge:Trust in the Word of God.

Christocentric Conclusion: Jesus Christ rose from the grave on the third day. He revealed the power of God to save and redeem all those who trust in Him.
