Luke 20:19-26
Introduction: The leaders of Israel rage against the LORD and against His Messiah (cf. Psalm 2).
Summary Principle: Jesus is wholly innocent—He dies for our sin. Therefore, our salvation is certain.
For the Children: Jesus never sinned. He gives us His righteousness. We are righteous in Him.
1) Malicious Leaders (vv. 19-22)
The leaders of Israel promote evil.
- Comfort: God opposes wicked shepherds.
- Charge: Do not trust in evil.
2) Innocent Redeemer (vv. 23-26)
Jesus is innocent before God and man.
- Comfort: Jesus’ innocence is counted to us.
- Charge: Place no confidence in the flesh.
Christocentric conclusion: Jesus is the perfect Savior of man. He stands as a sinless substitute for us, innocent before God and man.
