The Persistent Widow

Luke 18:1-8

Introduction: Jesus uses a parable to encourage us “always to pray” (v. 1).

Summary Principle: Boldly and persistently pray, for God gives justice to His elect.
For the Children: Pray always! God hears you and answers you.

1) Justice of the Wicked (v. 1-5)

Even wicked men will give justice.

  • Comfort: Those who are persistent may be confident.
  • Charge: Be persistent in your pursuit of justice.

2) Justice of God (v. 6-8)
Surely God will give justice.

  • Comfort: God loves His elect.
  • Charge: Pray without ceasing (I Thessalonians 5:17).

Christocentric Conclusion: Jesus is our great High Priest who makes continual intercession on our behalf. He sets an example for us in continual prayer and grants us His Spirit to help us in our prayers, all so that we might boldly come to God trusting that He will answer us in our distress!
